Our Story
Laura and Renee are sisters, and grew up in the California beach town of Carpinteria, 20 miles south of Santa Barbara. Laura enjoyed many hobbies, such as dance, chorus, and piano. Renee concentrated most of her youth in gymnastics, where she won many medals.
Laura received her BS in Ornamental Horticulture from the California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California. She went on to a career in Information Technology. But she longed to get back to her artistic roots.
Renee received her BS in International Relations from the Monterey Institute of International Studies in Monterey, California. She went on to a career as a flight attendent with an emphasis on German language flights. But after 9/11, being a flight attendent wasn't so cool.
At 2½ years old, Renee's son, Everett, was what we call "a cape kid." He was, and still is, the inspiration for Supercapes.com. Laura and Renee realized there is a need for capes for kids all year long...not just at Halloween. So they decided that they were the ones to fulfill that need by making high-quality custom capes.
Although Renee is still involved in promoting Supercapes, she has handed over her half of the reins to Laura. And Laura is working on getting the capes to a wider market while continuing her day job in Information Technology. She hopes one day to be able to quit her day job and concentrate solely on Supercapes and other artistic endeavors.
